Dr Noel Scott TD, FRCP, MRCPsych

Dr Noel Scott TD, FRCP, MRCPsych is a Consultant Psychiatrist to Belfast City Hospital (Windsor House). Appointed 1981, he established the first Psychiatry of Old Age service in Ireland organised along recommended lines, and still happily continues in this job.

He has many other clinical interests in Psychiatry, including the Psychiatry of Trauma, Military Psychiatry, Somatoform disorders, and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). In 1999 he began what is still the only CFS treatment service in N Ireland.

He has written many medico-legal reports, and has made the occasional Court appearance. Decision-making in the area of Testamentary Capacity in elderly patients led to a wider interest in Mental Capacity, and he lectures on this subject, and has examined and advised in a wide range of such cases, in all age-groups.

He serves as a ‘second opinion’ medical officer to the N Ireland Mental Health Commission; and sits as a Medical Member on the N Ireland Mental Health Review Tribunal, the Medical Appeal Tribunal, and the Pensions Appeal Tribunal.

He believes that nurses are the lifeblood of healthcare; don’t get paid enough; and are disgracefully under-valued.
