Mr Alastair Brown FRCS (Plast)

Alastair Brown graduated from Queen’s University of Belfast medical school in 1994. After general surgical training he gained his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1998.

He commenced training in Plastic Surgery in Belfast and then Scotland, where he spent two and a half years. He was successful in securing the Inamed International Aesthetic Surgery fellowship in King Edward VII Hospital, London, working with Mr Barry Jones. He also obtained the British Society of Surgery of the Hand Travelling Fellowship to allow him to attend the Kleinert Institute for Hand and Microsurgery in Louisville, Kentucky, USA. He spent periods of time in Birmingham, Derby and Oxford for instruction in Hand Surgery and Ghana, Africa. He obtained the fellowship examination in Plastic Surgery in 2005.

He has published extensively in the Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Journal of Trauma, International Burns Journal and numerous other scientific journals. He is a reviewer for the Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery and has presented at numerous meetings both nationally and internationally.

He was appointed Consultant in Plastic Surgery in the Ulster Hospital, Belfast in February 2007. As well as clinical duties, he is extensively involved in the training of medical staff and allied health professionals. He has responsibility for undergraduate and post-graduate medical training, having links with the Queen’s University of Belfast.

Alastair Brown’s main areas of interest include Hand Surgery, Aesthetic Surgery and General Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
